Cheap Hotels near Puerta de Europa, Madrid
The Puerta de Europa towers are a modern sort of “gate” into the city of Madrid, located at what once was the Northern-most point in this rapidly growing city. These twin office buildings in Madrid are 115 metres tall and lean at an improbable 15º angle. Designed by American architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee, they were commissioned in 1996 by the Kuwait Investment Office from which they get their original name ("Torres KIO" or "KIO Towers"). These feats of engineering and architecture are located a short distance away from one of Madrid’s two major train stations, Chamartin (Atocha, the other station, is located further south in Madrid on the same street). The Puerta de Europa is an iconic feature of this, the business district of Madrid, and will be a memorable part of any business visit to the city. It was also featured in the last scene of the Spanish film “El día de la bestia” (1995).
