The Jardin El Capricho is a beautiful park located in the northeast part of Madrid, Alameda de Osuna. This is one of the most beautiful of Madrid’s parks and is a very good place for a family to visit for a day to get away from the bustle and have a picnic in a verdant setting. There is even a hedge maze, fun for the whole family. Commissioned by the Marquise, the Jardin El Capricho was built between 1787 and 1839. It covers a surface area of approximately 14 hectares and, apart from the labyrinth includes many other features fit for a marquise including a small palace, a richly decorated ball room, a chapel, fountains and ponds complete with water fowl. These are all dappled throughout a very beautifully cared for natural setting. It is easy to imagine the opulent balls and garden parties thrown by the ruling class in this breathtaking backdrop.
