Sports fans won’t want to miss the Vicente Calderón Stadium, home to Atlético Madrid, one of Spain’s major football teams. Suit up in your red and white stripped best and come on down to support one of the oldest teams in Spain, founded in 1903. This stadium holds 55,000 screaming fans, sometimes of football, other times of concerts. Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet tour in 2009 and other big bands to appear in this mega-stadium have included U2 and Mexican pop idols RBD. This stadium has also hosted the Spanish National team and has a 5 star rating. This large stadium by the Manzanares River will not be standing forever, by 2012 the Vicente Calderón Stadium will be torn down and Atletico will have its new home base at the La Peineta Stadium which will accommodate a staggering 73,000 people, just 7,000 less than Madrid´s largest football stadium, Santiago Bernabeu.
