The Palace of Moncloa has been the official home of the Spanish Prime Minister since the fall of the dictatorship. The room which is now the big chief’s bedroom was formerly for visitors including the likes of Saddam Hussein and Richard Nixon. Moncloa is actually a complex of several buildings, including the Ministry of the Presidency and of the Deputy Prime Minister, and a press office. Although Moncloa dates back to 1600, much of it was destroyed in the Spanish Civil War and the buildings seen today are largely the result of the reconstruction which began in 1947.
The Palace of Moncloa is situated in the leafy Ciudad Universitaria neighbourhood of the capital (also the name of the nearest metro station), close to the prestigious Universidad Complutense.
