Warm 2-star Hostal Rubio is located smack in the centre of Madrid, just a few minutes to Puerta del Sol, and also Palacio Real and Plaza Mayor. This hostel has an excellent location between the exciting centre of the city and near the gritty charm of the Rastro flea market (Sunday mornings) and the bohemian bars of the Lavapies area. The nightlife in Lavapies is more laid back than the raucous clubs such as Joy Eslava where the dress code is in force. ... more details >
The apartment is literally around the corner from the sprawling Sunday Rastro market, where you can shop for handmade jewelry, bijoux, knickknacks, doodads, and antiques. This is a great place to wind down the weekend, La Latina has fabulous tapas bars and a lively vibe on Sundays around 2 pm: El Bonano, Delic, La Escondida, El Almendro, Tempranillo and many more. For great seafood try Juana la Loca and fantastic wines in Xentes with Gallician style food. The Rubio family has been running this hostel for over 30 years and they know a thing or two about service. Some rooms have a private ensuite bathroom (with tub or shower), others require the guest to use a shared bathroom outside in the corridor. All rooms have color TV. If you need to use the city’s great public transport, you just have to go round the corner from the hostel to Tirso de Molina metro station (Line 1). < hide more details
