This royal behemoth of a dwelling has an astounding 2800 rooms, of which you can visit 50 of the highlights. King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia don’t live here, but in the “modest” (in comparison) Palacio de la Zarzuela: this is said to be because the king complained that by the time his dinner got to the table it was ice cold (not surprising). Wander the area and explore the quaint little tapas bars offering their specialties and the best-served cañas in Spain, slow poured with a head. Late night, you won’t have to go far, being on one of the main streets full of the bar and street life. Plaza de Santa Ana teems with the Madrid throngs, and Calle Huertas has loads of bar options. This Hostel has been recommended in Fodors, Eurocheapo and Let's Go guides, and has clean, simply decorated rooms, equipped with all the necessities to make you feel comfortable, but with no superfluous luxuries. The friendly, professional staff in this family-run hostel is helpful for recommendations. It is close to Madrid’s excellent public transport (metro, bus, taxi). A basic, centrally located Hostel where you will feel at home. < hide more details
