The 1 star Hostal Mairu is very central and located in the historic centre of Madrid in the fashionable Los Austrias area near Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and close to the houses where great Spanish painters and writers such as Goya, Lope de Vega and Calderón de la Barca once lived. This is an ideal location for those who love exploring the city on foot. For those interested in culture, Madrid has loads to offer from theatres pieces to flamenco and more. Many of the major theatres are within walking distance, though metro stops Opera and Sol are close by. On Sunday don’t forget to hit the Rastro flea market and enjoy a vermouth and tapas in La Latina neighbourhood winding down from a classic Madrid all-nighter.
This family run hostel is located in a renovated building. Most of the simply decorated rooms have en suite bathroom with shower and each room has colour TV. Some rooms have a minibar and there is 24 hour reception. All the rooms with a shared bathroom, also have a sink and shower inside.
The area is close to the bars, but far enough so that you can enjoy a good night of sleep. There is a restaurant in the building and the hostel offers laundry service and baggage storage.
