During the XV century La Puerta del Sol used to be one of the accesses to the city of Madrid . By that time the gate was nicely decorated by a sun, so many centuries after the square is still known as La Puerta del Sol (The Gate of the sun). 

It is one of the most important commercial areas of Madrid , visited by many tourists during the whole year. You can walk along the streets nearby and enjoy their amazing variety of shops.

Also, in La Puerta del Sol you can find the celebrated statue El Oso y el Madroño (The bear and the tree) by Antonio Navarro Santa Fe, and Carlos III statue by Miguel Angel Rodriguez and Eduardo Zancada.
