Madrid Arena is one of the Spanish capital’s most important stadiums. Located within Madrid’s biggest park, Casa de Campo, just to the west of the city centre, the stadium was opened in 2002 as park of the Madrid 2012 bid. The stadium was envisioned as the venue for the Olympic basketball matches and although this wasn’t to be, the stadium played host to Eurobasket 2007 and to the Real Madrid Basketball team while their stadium was under construction. Madrid Arena is also a major venue for boxing matches, corporate events, tennis matches (hosting the Masters Series Madrid tournament since 2002) and for concerts (Backstreet Boys, James Blunt and the Spice Girls to name a few). The stadium is well served by two nearby metro stations; Alto de Extremadura (Line 6) and Lago (Line 10).
