Near the hostel, the Cine Dore is a cheap cinema dedicated to showing the non-hollywood greats, a good option between dinner and midnight when the nightlife to really get started. From here Lavapies is a fantastic area for going out at night, Candela bar is an underground flamenco bar where flamenco greats come to hang out and sometimes dance, though it can be difficult to get downstairs to view the shows, the music and photos make this place a genuine flamenco oasis. La Colonia de San Lorenzo C/Salitre, 38 has a very Lavapies style mishmash of bohemian furniture, fish tank and artfully designed bathrooms- Prince look-alike owner occasionally dabbles in drag at the bar. Taqué C/Lavapies, 11 has an underground, graffiti type feel, with optional closing time. Peel yourself from your bed on Sunday for the famous Rastro flea market, it’s worth the effort, then recover over vermouth with others suffering like you in the lively La Latina area.
